Can someone help with a relationship problem please?

ok my bestfriends brother texted me once and he ended up liking me and i liked him and he was 2 years older then me and he texted me and called me everyday telling me how beautiful i was and how much he loved me and we had to keep things a secret because of his sister being my best friend. and he slapped one of his previous gfs once and supposedly beat up one. i really loved him so i just came to trust him but my parents didnt trust him so i only got to see him once. and im not sure whether we were technically dating but he acted like it and he quit talking to me for like a week and turns out he is dating some other girl and it hurt me and i about cried and he said he still wants to be friends and i do to and its been about a month since this happened and i just cant get over him i loved him more then anything in the world. he made me the happiest i had been in a long time and i love him still do. please help me i dont want to get over him but i think i need to. and advice please?
